Childcare
The Hobart Family YMCA School-Age Programs are committed to helping children get what they need to grow into healthy, caring, and responsible adults. We follow the Search Institute's Developmental Asset Model to measure the success of our efforts.
Our programs are carefully designed to provide many of the essential assets identified by the Search institute and provide opportunities for young people to accept and demonstrate the four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through the YMCA Character education Initiative.
1ST CHOICE SCHOOL-AGE CHILD CARE
1st Choice creates a safe, secure, stimulating and supervised environment for children before school as early as 6:00 a.m. and after school until 6:00 p.m. Service is also offered for children attending morning or afternoon kindergarten. The 1st Choice program serves the School City of Hobart Schools, all private schools in Hobart and the River Forest Community School District.Elementary children grades K-6th have the opportunity to socialize and experience a variety of activities. Some of these activities include organized games, gym time, VERB time, outdoor and indoor play, homework time, cooking, dramatic play, literacy enrichment, arts and crafts, music and movement, character development and special events. The 1st Choice program implements the YMCA of the USA's School-Age Curriculum that focuses on the following Core Components: Arts & Humanities, Character Development, Health, Wellness, and Fitness, Homework Support, Literacy, Math, Science and Technology, Service Learning and Social competence and Conflict Resolution.
The Y also provides activities on half school days at the contracted schools. On vacation days the program is held at the YMCA building unless the YMCA building is closed due to a holiday. Children should bring swimsuit, towel, gym shoes and a lunch when the program is at the YMCA.
A $50.00 non-refundable registration fee and first week of payment is required upon registration. Registration forms must be received two business days prior to starting the program. Early registration is recommended.
HOLIDAY FUN DAYS
Fun Days meet at the YMCA building when school is not in session. Fun Days are opened to all children enrolled in the 1st Choice Program. Children need to bring a sack lunch, swim suit and towel with their name marked on each personal belonging. The Y provides snacks and beverages. Some of the activities will be crafts, games, movies, music, swimming, gym time, dramatic play, Jr. Achievement and health and wellness activities.SUPER SUMMER DAY CAMP
The best thing going for kids this summer is Super Summer Day Camp at the Hobart Family YMCA. This program is for kids who have completed kindergarten through 6th grade. Day Camp hours are from 8 am to 4 pm (earlier and later times are available for an additional fee.) Children can be registered for a day, a week or for 11 fun -filled weeks.Parents must complete all necessary registration forms two (2) business days before the child/ren may begin to participate. A $30 non-refundable registration fee is required. If you child has been in the 2009-2010 1st Choice program there is only a $5.00 registration fee and all paperwork must be updated.

DEVELOPMENTAL PRESCHOOL - 2010-2011 School Year
A high quality program for 3, 4, and 5 year olds that includes social and academic development applying developmental appropriate practices. Learning centers, directed play-time, socialization, worksheets, literacy program, character development, gym time, field trips, parties, exercise, arts and crafts, swimming and much more will be experienced by our preschoolers. Our quality staff is trained, experienced, caring and friendly.A $50 non-refundable registration fee is required at time of registration. Class size is limited. The YMCA Developmental Preschool is in it 31st year of operation. Please call the YMCA and ask for Sharon for more detailed information.
