LIFEGUARD TRAINING(American Red Cross)

Ages: 15 and over
This certification course will teach professionalism, surveillance, victim recognition, equipment-based rescues, and caring for head, neck and back injuries. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive two American Red Cross certifications: one indicating lifeguard training and first aid that is valid for 3 years and another indicating CPR for the professional rescuer that is valid for 1 year.
Course Prerequisites:
- To be eligible for the Lifeguard Training course, the candidate must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of this course. The candidate must also successfully complete the following swimming prerequisites:
- 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick.
- 100 yards of breastroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.
- 100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breaststroke.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

FIRST AIDTime: 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Where: Intergen Room
Participants learn how to respond to various first aid emergencies such as sudden illness, bumps, bleeding and injuries to muscles, bones and joints. Upon successfule completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross certification valid for three years.
Adult, Child & Infant CPR; Adult & Child CPR AED (Automated External Defibrillator) /TRAININGTime: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm Where: Intergen Room
This course will teach you how to recornize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. The American Red Cross AED essentials course is designed to teach individuals the skills and knowledge needed to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an American Red Cross certification valid for 1 year.
ASTHMA INHALER TRAINING
Ideal for those who may be required to assist someone having an asthma attack and have their asthma inhaler with them.
WATER SAFETY TODAY
The purpose of the Water Safety Today presentation is to teach individuals how to recognize, prevent, and respond to emergencies in, on, and around water.
Participants who attend a presentation will receive and American Red Cross "Has Attended" certificate indicating the name of the presentation given.
EPINEPHRINE AUTO-INJECTOR TRAININGPre-requisite: Current adult CPR Ideal for those who may be required to assist someone during a severe allergic reaction and have their epinephrine auto-injector with them. After completing this course, participants will be able to demonstrate appropriate handling and disposal of an epinephrine auto-injector. Upon successful completion of course participants will receive an American Red Cross certification valid for one year.

YMCA HEALTHY FAMILIES DAYDate: 10:00-12:00 p.m.
Show your kids how to have fun and be healthy at YMCA Healthy Kids Day. Watch for flyers posted at the welcome center and bulletin boards at the Y for YMCA Healthy Kids and Family Day. Come with your family to take part in fun, interactive, health-centered activities. Teaching children healthy habits early will help them take care of themselves for a lifetime. It's FREE and open to everyone. It's a great time to get healthy with your kids. The Hobart YMCA invite you and the whole family to have fun in the Y swimming pool, games, obstacle course, family fun walk, face painting and tattoos, health screenings, photo-kid's ID, door prizes, give-aways, refreshments, and much more. A YMCA Family Membership will be given in our door prize drawings as well as several program gift certificates. We will be serving free, healthy refreshments. Don't miss out on all the fun!
