AQUATIC EXERCISE CLASSES

AQUA SCULPTING (Intermediate / Advanced)

Mon /Wed/Fri. 6:15 - 7:00 am

Fun and challenging deep and shallow water routines for those serious about their water workout. Burn fat; improve muscle tone, strength, flexibility and endurance. Aqua-steps, Hand buoys and noodles are used for added resistance and strengthening exercises.

A.F.Y.A.P Arthritis Foundation YMCA Aquatic Program

Mon/Wed/Fri 9:15 - 10:00 am

This water exercise program is designed for people with arthritis, joint and related conditions. Focusing on increasing range of motion, muscle strength, flexibility, and endurance, this class allows you to participate without excess strain on joints and muscles. This class is certified by the Arthritis Foundation and is led only by trained and certified instructors.

AQUACISE

(Beginner/Intermediate)

Mon/Wed/Fri 10:00 - 10:45 am

Low-impact water aerobics, progressing at your own pace, using noodles in the warm-up, cardio boxing, kick boards and hand buoys for strength and toning.

WATER WALKING

(Beginner)

Mon/Wed/Fri                                      2:15 - 3:00 p.m.

Gentle yet effective walking routines combined with muscle toning, strengthening and posture improving exercises to makethis the perfect aquatic workout for beginners, those over 50, those rehabbing injuries or pregnant. Walk yourself to better health.

AQUA MIX

(Beginner / Intermediate) Mon/Wed 6:30 - 7:15 pm

This fun low impact water exercise program is designed to help increase joint mobility and muscular strength as well as promote cardiovascular fitness and endurance. Certified personnel conduct the sessions.

AQUA JOG

Tue/Thu 7:00 - 7:45 am

This class combines strength, cardio and endurance moves in the water. The use of water weights, aqua belts and step offer an overall body workout.

PILATES H20

Beginner/ Intermediate) Tues/Thur 9:45 - 10:30 a.m.

Develop strength and flexibility with fluity and grace. Learn how to move the body as an integrated whole. Build a stronger core (abdominals and back) and improve posture and body awareness.

SWIMMING LESSONS

Price: $10/Members $60/Non-Members

IMPORTANT SWIM INFORMATION

  • Please contact the Front Desk or the Aquatic Dept. for class days and times. All classes fill up quickly and have an enrollment limit.
  • Parents are permitted on deck and observe lessons on the first and last day of each session. During the remainder of the session, parents are asked to wait in the lobby so that the children may give their full attention to the instructor.

PARENT & CHILD SWIM LESSONS I

(Adult participation in water required)

Ages 6 mos. to 3 years: The primary goal of this program is comfort and safety. Songs and games are an important part of the instruction at this level. Motor skills will also be presented. A parent or trusted adult will be needed to accompany the child in the pool. (Cloth diaper with plastic pants or diapers manufactured for swimming pool use with plastic pants are required)

PARENT & CHILD SWIM LESSONS II

(Adult participation in water required)

Ages 2-/12 to 3 years: This program is designed to acclimate children 2-1/2 to 3 years old to a regular Pre-school lesson format. Parents are encouraged to participate in Parent/Child Interactive Class I before trying this program. It is also a great help for those who are slightly over 3 years old who might be a little timid. Parents may need to accompany their child in the pool to help their child feel more comfortable.

PRE SCHOOL LESSONS

Pikes, Eels, Rays and Starfish-ages 3-5 years: The YMCA Pre-School Swim program is designed to introduce and build elementary swimming and safety skills. Children are placed in groups with a YMCA trained instructor. Emphasis is on developing coordination, endurance, and self-confidence of the pre-schooler. Students will work with and without flotation devices. Students will be evaluated and moved to the appropriate level.

PROGRESSIVE SWIM

PROGRESSIVE SWIM PROGRAM

Polliwogs, Guppies, Minnows, Fish, Flying Fish & Shark-ages 6 - 12 years: The National YMCA Progressive Swim Program stresses endurance, personal safety, skill development, and lifesaving techniques. The four competitive strokes are introduced and perfected as emphasis is placed on development of the total child. Students will work with and without flotation devices. Students will be evaluated and moved to appropriate level.

If your child has had swimming lessons but not at the Hobart Family YMCA, please contact the Aquatics Department to schedule an evaluation before registering for class.

New students should be evaluated before the program begins to assess their level; otherwise, please register in the Polliwog.

ADULT LEARN TO SWIM

(Ages 18 & Over)

Perhaps you didn't have the time or opportunity to learn to swim when you were younger. This class will provide YMCA progressive swimming instruction. Lap swimming is the perfect cardiovascular workout for life. Learn to swim now and improve your health and fitness.

TEEN LEARN TO SWIM

American Red Cross Levels I - IV Ages: 12 - 17

Level I - Intro to Water Skills
Level II - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Level III - Stroke Development
Level IV - Stroke Improvement

Red Cross Certification Card will be issued upon successful skills assessment.

YOUTH WATER SPORTS

Water Polo/Junior Lifeguard/Volleyball Swimmers Ages 9 - 17

Participants are girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 17 who meet the requirements of Guppy level swimming skills. Participants will learn the rules, regulations, lead-up activities and basic skills of Water Polo. Junior Lifeguard lessons are designed to provide knowledge, attitude and skills necessary to succeed in lifeguard certification courses and enhance effectiveness on the job as a lifeguard. Learn the basic skills of Water Volleyball.

Need to work on water Safety Badges? Want to learn Water Safety? Scouts are available by appointment only and advanced registration is required.

GENERAL AQUATICS

ADULT WATER VOLLEYBALL

Tue and Thu 7:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. Men and women, 18 & over are welcome to play volleyball in the pool.

ADULT SWIM

Men & Women 18 years and older.

LAP SWIM

If you are unable to swim complete lengths of the pool, it is recommended that you practice during open swim times until your skills and stamina improve.

MEN'S SWIM

Men only 18 years and older.

WOMEN'S SWIM

Women only 18 years and older.

OPEN SWIM

Open swims are for all ages, children under the age of six must have a parent in the swimming pool with them at all times. Children 6-12 must demonstrate at least Guppy level swimming ability in order to swim in deep end. Lifeguard on duty will test all children's swimming ability before being allowed to swim in the pool.

OPEN/LAP SWIM

All rules for open swim apply. The pool will be divided into open/lap swim lanes depending upon the number of patrons requesting lap swimming at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty.

FAMILY SWIM

A parent must accompany children at any age.

POOL HEALTH REGULATIONS

All persons using the swimming pool must take a hot soapy shower before entering the swimming pool. This is a State Board of Health regulation and will be enforced by our lifeguards. Failure to comply with this rule will mean immediate removal from swimming pool area. Do not plan to swim if you have open sores, stitches, infections, scabs or band-aids. Proper swim attire is required. No basketball shorts.
